I want to know if the american hummer is allowed on australian roads?

I have a friend coming over from america and he wants to bring his hummer, so i was wanting to know if he brings it over is he allowed to drive it on our roads,thanks....|||You can get the Hummer converted when you get here. It is expensive but if you own a hummer then the price wont be an issue. It is also slow and expensive to bring the cars over. I have given you one link to a place that does it, but every capital city and major regional city will have some where to convert them. Car clubs would also be able to direct you where to go. Some states will give you a permit until conversion, but a special plate has to be attached to your car saying left hand drive vehicle. If you weigh up the cost of bringing the Hummer over, and converting it, it seems that it would be better to sell the Hummer and buy one when he gets here. We have Hummers here. |||Suggest either you or your friend contact the relevant Road Authority in your State to see what the requirements are. This may vary from State to State, but in some States driving a left-hand drive vehicle is prohibited.

EDIT: The vehicle will need to be registered in Australia before it can be driven. If the vehicle is less than 15 years old, then it will need to be converted to right-hand drive before it can be registered. So if you friend wants to import the vehicle and convert it at his expense, then register it, certainly he can drive it in Australia.|||Yes, right hand drive Hummers are sold here so I'd guess they are allowed on our roads.

I don't know why anyone would want one though.

Your friend does realise we drive right hand drive vehicles here?

I don't know how safe it would be driving a left hand drive vehicle of that size on our roads.

Maybe he could sell it in the USA and buy one here.

The exchange rate is in his favour at the moment.

Here is the Australian website for Hummers.

Most people in Australia are turning away from the big cars for economic and environmental reasons. |||as long as it meets the Australian standards and complies with all the rules and regulations |||Yes they can be driven on Australian roads, there also sold here, Parking just like the F.250's may cause a parking problem...|||Yes it is, as long as it's registered. There's a few around - although most people here think they're a complete waste of fuel and space!|||whada basterd!

no tell him to never ever drive the hummer
