What will the US military use now that the original hummer is being discontinued?

It's hard to believe but they aren't going to make the original Hummer any longer. What will the US military use now?|||Yes, GM is discontinuing the HUMMER.... but AM General is the actual builder of the military specification High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. Its not just symantics... the two vehicles share some similarities, but they are markedly different.

As per the Program Executive Office and the United States Tank and Automotive Command... the HMMWV isn't going anywhere. It'll be here for many more years.|||I guess they'll have to invent something that uses even more gas.|||I have seen several options, but have yet to hear of anything firm being chosen.|||The original hummer you could buy and the hummer the military is using are very different. I doubt if the hummer the military uses has FM radio and AC.|||Rest assured, the military will have the vehicles it needs. The military version was a special production anyway and not representative of the 'civilian' version other than in shell only. American companies contract with the defense department all the time to build to specifications they call for. It's a normal course of business in the US.|||the Stryker LAV III (Light Armored Vehicle III)

The Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center is developing the Future Tactical Truck System to streamline deliveries to deployed troops. Future Tactical Truck System (FTTS) consists of two versions: FTTS-Maneuver Sustainment, and FTTS-Utility. FTTS-MS will replace the LMTV, MTV, HEMTT, and PLS trucks, with R%26amp;D funding starting in FY04. FTTS-U will replace the HMMWV (hummer).|||They'll buy any piece of garbage that "Rummy's" business associates present.

My grandson is in Kuwait, this is where the hundreds of Hummers that have been blown up are stored. There are literally acres of these substandard Humvees stacked like cars in a junkyard.

The vehicle isn't all it is cracked up to be.

20 years ago, when Bushdaddy decided to "give" one away to Arnold S. (California's latest idiot/actor governor). The Humvee was a pretty decent assault vehicle, but we all remember the stink ole Bushdaddy created when the press found out that is was a federal offense to "give away" Army property. I still haven't found out why he wasn't made accountable for his lack of respect for our nation's laws.

But when GM cheapened down the vehicle so everyone could own one, they used the basic Suburban frame and just put a Humvee "skin" on it.

These are Hummers.... not Humvees. Small name change big strength loss.|||Ever seen "Batman Returns", well it looks a whole lot like that. But it doesn't do what you saw on there. It is still in the exploitation phase, but that is what the marine corps is going to.|||they are working on many different models that use hybrid fuels and stores energy for later use in batteries. the army has one while the marines another called the Ultra Armored Patrol.
